2024 Wisconsin Traditional Archers Banquet
Calling all WTA members! Mark your calendars for February 23rd and 24th 2024 for the Wisconsin Traditional Archers Annual Banquet! The upcoming banquet will be held again at Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Our comeback year was tons of fun and an excellent turnout so come and gather with all your friends and family to enjoy a great day filled with many games/raffles, kids shooting range, vendors and other fun events including seminars throughout the day. There will also be a photo contest to show off your archery skills and adventures, and an arrow contest in which the winning arrow will be auctioned off at our dinner. As always, The WTA is proud to announce another great Keynote Speaker for our dinner event this coming year, Steve Gorr.
If you have any interest in donations, sponsorships, or vendor information for the WTA banquet please see the following form to sign up. $250 cash or $300 retail value of material/item donations qualifies for sponsorship. Sponsors receive 2 free dinner tickets, one 8-foot vendor table and advertisement is one of our upcoming quarterly magazines. Local Archery Clubs are encouraged to sponsor the banquet too. Please ask your local bow club to become a sponsor.
Also, as always, we will be looking for volunteers to help with all the day’s activities. Steve Gorr has planned an entertaining line-up and not only will be doing a wonderful evening presentation, but will also be doing a daytime seminar in the conference room with plans to then move to our practice range for a short shooting clinic afterwards.
Steve began his archery adventures in 1955 and is still going strong!! He won the Wisconsin State Archery Championship in the 1960 barebow division at age 16. He has won two Wisconsin State Archery target championships, The Milwaukee Sentinel Sport Show barebow division twice, as well as the U.S. Open barebow in Las Vegas twice!
Steve has also coached the University of Washington Archery team. He then began supervising guided bow hunts in Wyoming from 1984 to 2005. They had 92% success on antelope and 67% harvest on mule deer. Steve’s bowhunting has taken him to Africa, Canada, Mexico, and New Zealand. In 1973 he took the FIRST bighorn sheep with a bow in Colorado with a Pope and Young score of 157 2/8. Later that year he harvested a 2nd bighorn sheep in Montana P&Y 163 0/8.
In 1975 Steve arrowed a Boone and Crocket Cananda moose that scored 197 and in 1976 a Boone and Crocket Mountain caribou (387 6/8), both ranking number 2 in the world! Over the years Steve has taken record class antelope, black bear, mule deer, whitetail, Yellowstone elk, Roosevelt elk, mountain goat, caribou, and moose.
In 1979 he opened Cascade Archery Custom Longbow and Recurve Manufacturing and finally closed the doors and retired in 2012. He is however still making lighter weight limbs for past customers who cannot pull their old weight anymore. Steve is still active in bowhunting and teaching young adults and children how to improve their shooting at every opportunity and he tries to attend 3-4 3D shoots annually.
